Two Georgia State University faculty members have been honored with a Regents’ Professorship, the highest faculty honor in the University System of Georgia:
Guantao Chen, College of Arts & Sciences
Dr. Chen’s appointment as Regents’ Professor recognizes his prolific, high-quality research and international reputation. His peers noted his 123 publications, which span both classical graph theory and applications to practical problems, including mathematical applications in medicine, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. His international contributions have included multiple visiting positions abroad, lectures, and service as managing editor of a leading international journal. Described by his peers as a skilled and dedicated organizer and leader, Chen has also organized numerous mathematical conferences and meetings in the southeast.
Richard Wright, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
Dr. Wright is considered one of the leading scholars of criminology and the most distinguished qualitative researcher in the field. He is noted for his voluminous and cutting edge work, which has included extensive interviews with active offenders. Wright’s ethnographic studies of burglars and robbers are regarded as pioneering, and he has developed a research methodology and analytic style that constitute the undisputed model and standard for work on street crime. Through this methodology, Wright and his collaborators have not only generated rich data, but also connected them to key issues in criminological theory and crime control policy.
