The Path Forward 2024: The COACHE II Action Plan Is Now Available

The Office of the Provost is pleased to present a plan of action in response to the feedback from the university’s second COACHE survey, administered in 2023.

The university-level plan, “The Path Forward 2024,” is divided into four broad areas identified for improvement, with 14 steps as goals for achievement. These steps address the specific issues raised in the survey regarding service, teaching, benefits and salary, and personal and family policies.

Geographer Carrie R. Freshour Earns American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship

Carrie R. Freshour, an assistant professor in the Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University, has been named a 2024 American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellow.

The ACLS Fellowship Program supports scholars who are poised to make original and significant contributions to knowledge in any field of the humanities or interpretive social sciences. This year, the program will award more than $3.6 million to 60 early career scholars.

Political Scientist Jennifer McCoy Earns Andrew Carnegie Fellowship to Further Research into Political Polarization

Jennifer McCoy, a Regents’ Professor in Georgia State’s Political Science Department, has been named a 2024 Andrew Carnegie Fellow.

McCoy is one of 28 to receive the Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, which is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Fellows will receive stipends of $200,000 each for research that seeks to understand how and why our society has become so polarized, and how we can strengthen the forces of cohesion to fortify our democracy.

2024 Faculty Awards Announced at Georgia State

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce this year’s winners of the university’s faculty awards, recognizing faculty achievement and excellence.

Winners will be honored during the 2024 Celebrating Faculty Excellence event in September.

Regents’ Professorships and Distinguished University Professorships will be announced separately at a later date.

2023-24 Cohorts of the Executive Leadership Academy for Women and the Leadership Academy for Women Faculty Celebrate Graduation

Participants in the 2023-24 cohorts of the Executive Leadership Academy for Women (ELAW) and the Leadership Academy for Women Faculty (LAWF) celebrated the completion of their leadership programs this April.

Celebrations took place at Centennial Hall on April 12 for LAWF and April 17 for ELAW, with friends, colleagues and family in attendance for each graduation. ELAW, for staff, and LAWF, for faculty, are eight-month cohort-based leadership development programs, seeking to empower current and emerging leaders who are committed to self-discovery, lifelong learning, career advancement, and leading from where they are.

Apply by June 30 – Position Announcement: Assistant Provost for Faculty Success

Georgia State University’s Office of Faculty Affairs invites applications for the position of Assistant Provost for Faculty Success. This position reports to the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs.

This position is for full-time employment and will be conducted through a national search. The position will begin in January 2025.

Candidates must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent judgment, and strategic vision. Candidates should also have experience with leadership development, promotion and tenure, faculty policies, and conflict management. A terminal degree and administrative experience is required.

Apply by May 3 – Position Announcement: Faculty Associate for Perimeter College

Georgia State University’s Office of Faculty Affairs invites applications for the Faculty Associate for Perimeter College. This position reports to the Director of Faculty Development. This position is open to any full-time faculty in one of the academic units at Perimeter College.

Candidates must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent judgment, and strategic vision. Candidates should also be highly organized and understand the importance of policy and procedure. Experience with the professional development of faculty and familiarity with processes related to faculty hiring, evaluation, promotion, and tenure is desired. A demonstrated record of administrative experience is preferred but not required. To ensure consideration, submit all materials by May 3, 2024.

2024 International Education Awards: Call for Nominations

Do you know outstanding faculty, staff or students who deserve recognition for their international achievements? The Office of International Initiatives is accepting nominations for the annual International Education Awards.

Since 2012, the International Education Awards have recognized outstanding faculty, staff and students for their commitment to international education. Awards are given at the annual International Honorary Reception during International Education Week in November.

Carol Winkler Wins Prestigious Robert J. Kibler Memorial Award from the National Communication Association

Carol Winkler, Professor of Communication at Georgia State University recently received the 2023 Robert J. Kibler Memorial Award from the National Communication Association (NCA).

Dr. Winkler has served the communication discipline and NCA for over 40 years, supporting excellence in argumentation and debate in the public sphere while creating and nurturing a critical research effort at the juncture of media, terrorism, and violence.

Call for Applications: Faculty Associate for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity

Georgia State University’s Office of Faculty Affairs invites applications for the position of Faculty Associate for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity. This position reports to the Director of Faculty Development in the Office of Faculty Affairs.

This position is open to faculty at the rank of full professor or associate professor with tenure and non-tenure track faculty in one of the academic units at Georgia State. Applicants must have 40 percent of their workload in research, scholarship and creative activity and have demonstrated success in that area.
