These virtual workshop sessions will take tenure track faculty through the various steps in the promotion and tenure process. Tenured faculty and administrators will share their perspectives on navigating the process. This event will include time for Q&A. You are welcome to attend both sessions, but you can select just one. You will have an opportunity to ask a question in the event registration form.

THURSDAY, OCT. 31: GRANT PROPOSAL WRITING WORKSHOP SERIES (WORKSHOP 1)
Workshop 1: Research Ideation

The Office of Faculty Affairs is excited to announce a new, upcoming four-part workshop series on grant proposal writing focused on preparing potential project investigators to write successful research grant proposals. This workshop series is open to all GSU faculty across campuses and across career stages. It will explore all the steps of grant writing informed by best practices. This series will be particularly helpful to faculty who are preparing a proposal for the first time and for those who are in the process of preparing a proposal with potential submission target deadlines in Spring 2025.
The deadline for registration is Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The series is capped at 30 faculty members, and registration is first-come, first-serve, with a waitlist available after slots fill up. This is a cohort program, with each session building up to the next – we ask that faculty who register are committed to attending all sessions. A registration link was distributed to faculty in mid-October, and a reminder will be sent. (Click here to inquire further about registration.)
The first session will focus on best practices in research project generation and identification of appropriate funding sources. Additional sessions will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024; Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 and Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.

Room 2608, 25 Park Place NEThe Office of Faculty Affairs is excited to announce the Fall Faculty Writing Table on Friday, Nov. 8, a writing retreat to support faculty members’ professional writing goals.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dean’s Meeting Center, Room 2608 in the 25 Park Place building.
The session will begin with a brief goal-setting exercise — then everyone will write!
A qualitative and quantitative methodologist, as well as a grant specialist will be available for consultation. Food and beverages will be provided. The event is limited to 50 full-time faculty participants, so make sure to keep an eye on your inbox for the registration link!
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 13: FACULTY WELLNESS WORKSHOP SERIES: ADDRESSING BURNOUT

Via WebexBurnout is something that almost everyone experiences at some point. Recent data suggests that about 50 percent of faculty report symptoms of burnout. This training will help you understand what burnout is, how to identify it in your own life, and ways to prevent and address it. This training will include resources and activities.

Centennial Hall, Room 120The Write-In Network (WIN) program’s primary aim is to facilitate faculty’s scholarly writing goals. The program will provide participants with trainings and support around professional goal setting and goal attainment, as well as resources to promote writing productivity. The ideal WIN candidate will be a faculty member who has a specific writing goal (e.g., will be going up for tenure and/or promotion in the next year, grant proposal, article, book), and would benefit from community support and skill-building. Varied research areas and methods of inquiry are encouraged. Participants will be nominated by deans.
FRIDAY, NOV. 15: PERIMETER COLLEGE FACULTY - ANNUAL REVIEW WRITING LAB
Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Student Center (NB) 2100, Dunwoody CampusThis workshop will provide a collaborative and supportive setting for faculty to work on their annual evaluation documents, including reports and supporting documentation. Faculty will engage in training around the “why” and “how” of faculty review and Perimeter College chairs and associate chairs will be present to answer specific questions.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have produced a draft of their review documents with a plan for completion of the packet. Priority will be given to faculty who are preparing for pre- or post-tenure reviews, as well as faculty who are preparing for non-tenure track, third- or fifth-year reviews. However, all are welcome to register. The event will be capped at 30 participants. After 30 registrants, faculty will be added to a waitlist. A registration link is being sent to Perimeter faculty during the week of Oct. 21.

This is an invitation-only event. This event, originally planned for Sept. 26, was rescheduled due to Hurricane Helene.
Celebrating Faculty Excellence is Georgia State’s recognition of the outstanding faculty that make a great university possible, honoring faculty award winners, newly appointed and re-appointed Regents’ Professors, newly appointed and re-appointed Distinguished University Professors, and faculty who have been promoted and/or earned tenure.

New Deans and Department Chairs Orientation provides information about Georgia State important to leadership roles at the university, including information needed for successful fiscal management, conflict resolution, faculty mentorship, leadership practices, and more. This event is invitation only.
MONDAY, AUG. 12 OR TUESDAY, AUG. 13: CETLOE NEW FACULTY TEACHING ORIENTATION (CHOOSE EITHER DATE)
Monday, Aug. 12 or Tuesday, Aug. 13 (choose one), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The teaching orientation is organized by the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Online Education. This is highly recommended for all new, full-time faculty that have instructional responsibilities. New faculty can choose one day to attend based on their schedules. Attendees will meet in Classroom South, Room 150 and move to CETLOE after lunch for support with technology and program information. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Faculty mental health and wellness is an essential part of a healthy university community. Thus, the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) has launched its Faculty Wellness Workshop Series for the 2024-25 academic year.
These workshops will focus on topics relevant to the faculty experience, including burnout prevention, time management, goal-setting, and work-life balance. The workshops will be delivered via Webex and facilitated by Dr. Cirleen DeBlaere, a psychologist and OFA’s Director of Faculty Development. Registration for each training will be limited to 40 participants. Further details about topics for each workshop are located on this calendar per event, and all four sessions’ topics are available here at the Faculty Wellness Hub.
