FACULTY WELLNESS WORKSHOP SERIES
2024-25 Series
About the Faculty Wellness Workshop Series
Faculty mental health and wellness is an essential part of a healthy university community. Thus, the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) is continuing its Faculty Wellness Workshop Series. These workshops will focus on topics relevant to the faculty experience, including, time management, goal-setting, burnout prevention, perfectionism, and work-life balance. The workshops will be delivered via WebEx and facilitated by Dr. Cirleen DeBlaere, a psychologist and OFA’s Director of Faculty Development, and other Georgia State faculty. Registration for each training will be limited to 40 participants.
Schedule and registration information is located below.
2024-25 Schedule
Time Management and Setting Goals
Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
As the semester begins, we often find ourselves trying to get into a productive rhythm. This training will focus on the skills of setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals and time-management to meet the myriad responsibilities of faculty. This training will include resources and activities.
Addressing Burnout
Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, 2 to 3 p.m.
Burnout is something that most everyone experiences at some point. Recent data suggests that about 50 percent of faculty report symptoms of burnout. This training will help you to understand what burnout is, how to identify it in your own life, and ways that you can prevent and address it. This training will include resources and activities.
Perfectionism: It’s Easier to be Self-Critical and Harder Not to be
Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Perfectionism is tricky. You probably experienced some early and maybe ongoing benefits from a combination of exceedingly high standards and pushing yourself to be better, never satisfied, and always sensing a gap between how you did (or how you are) and how you should have done (or how you should be). Others might see you as performing at a very high level, yet you may not feel good about how you are doing. This training will help you understand different parts of the perfectionism puzzle, the double-edged sword of high expectations, and strategies for getting better with your perfectionism. This session is scheduled to feature Georgia State's Dr. Kenneth G. Rice, Professor in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services.
Envisioning the Summer You Want
Tuesday, April 22, 2025, 2 to 3 p.m.
The summer semester is right around the corner! It is a time where faculty teach, write and hopefully make time for rest. This training will focus on mapping out a successful summer that meets your specific needs. This hour-long training will include resources and activities.
